What a Session Looks Like

Thesis Overview and Introductory Discussion (5-10 minutes)

We talk about your essay, what thesis you are attempting to establish and any areas of concern you may have. If you have not yet written a draft, we will spend more time on this: discussing potential ideas you may have, structures you might adopt and preliminary concerns you may have.

Essay Commentary (45-50 minutes)

We read your essay aloud - paragraph by paragraph - and pause for commentary. I address any structural issues, ambiguous phrasing or confusing syntax we come across, as well as any areas where key claims or ideas need to be explained or justified in more detail. This constitutes the bulk of our session, and is a collaborative exercise - this is not me telling you what to do, but an opportunity to talk through your ideas and concerns with someone who knows essay-writing inside-out.

Working Points Summary (5 minutes)

We conclude the session by summarising actionable, specific working points to improve the essay and tips to take these improvements forward to future essays.

Post-Session Report

Within 24 hours, students receive a full report detailing the discussion and working points raised in the session. This will not only include the specific working points for the essay we discussed, but general essay-writing advice that arose during the session to help you ensure these improvements are sustained in future essays.

Disclaimer: I do not write essays for students – I help you write the best version of your own.
