True academic success combines two things - deep understanding of a subject and clarity of expression that testifies to this on the page. As a tutor, I take a twin-track strategy that helps students develop both, helping students to demonstrate the kind of engagement that secures top grades.

Beyond this, however, my aim is leave students with a genuine passion for the humanities. There is an old adage that ‘those who enjoy their job do not work a day in their life’ and I believe that the students who succeed the most are those who can lose themselves in the subject. I impart this not only through my own enthusiasm when teaching, but also by making content accessible, relatable and engaging.

About Ethan

I'm a doctoral researcher in philosophy at the University of Edinburgh, with more than six years of tutoring experience. In my time as an educator, I've had the privilege to share the subjects I love with hundreds of students - from KS2 to undergraduate level in private, university and international summer-school settings.

I help students understand how strong arguments and interpretations are built. The aim is not only to improve grades, but to foster confidence, intellectual independence and an ability to express difficult ideas clearly.
